Skills needed for the 21st century
We are not being completely and properly prepared for the 21st century. We need to learn more of what will always exist, some sort of trade system and economy. We need to prepare for jobs that will still be around in ten years like lawyers, business men, and people in the financial rush. We could also get ready for things like politics and government. Although I keep saying what we could use, I can also say that I agree with lots to. I like that we have the opportunity to use computers, smart boards, and audio and visual presentations. That said, with our laptops we need to change programs recently and update but also try different programs. We need to learn mechanics and how to build things but the problem is that we only get little of that and that is woodshop. We should have a complete mechanic course at the school and not just for half of the year.
Personally, I think overall the teaching needs a little bit of work. Sometimes I will have a computer problem and I will go to my teacher and tell him/her. They will then say “grab a different computer and try again.” I will do what I’m told and try on another computer. If that does not work I must go down to the 1st floor from the third and ask the one person that knows most about computers. That takes about one full hour sometimes and that is almost the entire class so I will only get twelve minutes to write. By this time I know my paper will be overdue and I will lose work ethic marks. So after all of this I am trying to get across that we need to be able to walk up to our teachers so that they can fix the problem and not take more than an hour. Plus we can learn what to do in this situation. I know that not only people coming out of college may not be the only ones that don’t know all of the technology but it is also the people that use to be amazing with technology back when there wasn’t much. All of that technology is now outdated and there should be a course that will teach the importance of the programs. There are even certain downloads that we must use than no one has ever heard of before. One of the downloads for example there is comic life. It is not simple to learn but it is way worse when the teacher doesn’t even know how to use the program.
This is such a big world. It is filled with opportunity and success but it is also packed with depression and failure. We have to know what is happening in the world. We need to see great and inspiring things and people like Bill Gates and great businesses. We also need to learn the depression of the world like earthquakes and tsunamis but also failures such as the economic downturn. So after all of this I think I have made my message pretty clear and if you did not get it, it is that I think there are lots of little flaws in our programs. This said all can be fixed over time. So think, what should we be prepared for?
